About Dr. Powell
Dr. Christine Powell is a highly regarded educator and researcher specializing in executive functioning and the support of individuals with ADHD and other learning challenges. With over two decades of experience in special education, she has dedicated her career to enhancing educational outcomes for students with both diagnosed and undiagnosed learning differences.
Dr. Powell’s academic foundation is rooted in a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine and a Master of Science in Special Education from Old Dominion University, with endorsements in Emotional and Behavioral disorders. Her expertise was further strengthened by a certification in Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Virginia. In 2017, she earned a Doctorate in Education from California Lutheran University, where her research focused on evidence-based interventions for students with executive functioning deficits. Her work as a Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching Scholar to Singapore in 2019, funded by the U.S. Department of State, allowed her to conduct research on executive functioning strategies that significantly impact student success.
As the founder of LearningByConnecting Education Therapy, Dr. Powell works with students both in-person and virtually, tailoring individualized strategies to enhance academic & career performance. In addition to her private practice, she serves as an Accessibility Coach for UCLA's Smarter Balanced Consortium, contributing to large-scale assessments, and has led professional development initiatives at California Lutheran University in the College of Education.
A published researcher, Dr. Powell’s research explores access, equity, and instructional practices for students with diverse learning profiles. Her commitment to professional growth is reflected in her leadership of teacher development programs and her continual advocacy for inclusive education.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Powell enjoys standup paddleboarding, long-distance running, and spending time with her two children, Conner and Callahan. Her unwavering dedication to improving the educational experience for students with learning differences continues to shape her work and influence the field of special education.
